Compression springs represent the most accurate type of spring to all others. Because of their built in stop, compressing them to their solid height prevents them from over deflecting, and thus limiting stress.

Though commonly fabricated out of round wire, compression springs are also manufactured using rectangle and square wire.

Die springs

Torsion springs

These type springs are often used when rotary forced is needed. Torsion springs can be stressed much higher then other type springs, because the material is stressed in bending, not in the torsion.

Most Torsion Springs are closed coil, or slightly pitched, to reduce friction. They are wound in either a right or left-hand direction.

Many applications require a spring where a right hand and left hand is needed. Thus the two opposite wound springs can be incorporated into one, know as a double torsion spring.
